Keeping Your Campsite Clean: A Camp Cleaner’s Guide

Are you going camping? With camping season in full gear, making sure you have everything you need is important. Having key rules in place on the responsibility of clean-up before your group arrives at the campsite can eliminate a lot of problems and cut down time when it is time to go. So, stocking up on cleaning tools to help you have a clean site will be what you need to have a clean and fun trip while enjoying the great outdoors.

Clean Your Backpack Before the Trip

Even though it may have been awhile since you have been on a camping trip, making sure your backpack is clean from any crumbs or stains before going on the trip will rid your backpack of any lingering odors and keep animals away. This will also ensure that you won’t have to worry about crumbs or anything else invading your space in the tent. Using a special cleaner for your outdoor gear may help with any odors as well.

Keep Your Clutter In One Spot

Once you are on your camping trip, you may find that some of your odds and ends are spread out, but making sure that you keep your belongings together is important. Having small tote bags for the small things can be easier than carrying them openly or putting them in your backpack with your other belongings.

Make Your Camp Kitchen Reusable

Having reusable containers and utensils when eating is a great help because it keeps from having to throw things away. Reusable containers will also keep bears and other pests away when trying to enjoy a meal. Collapsible cups come in handy and can be used over and over as well as give little worry to taking up space in your backpack.

Use a Ground Tarp

While spending time with friends in the great outdoors is always fun, making sure that any crumbs or food dropped lands on a ground tarp will help with keeping bugs and other animals away. It will also make it easier to clean up after the group meal and keep you on top of the list of what responsibilities everyone has.

Clean Before it Gets Dark

If your group has had a day of enjoying the campsite and hiking with a wind down of eating dinner then now it is time to make sure everything is clean and packed away safely before it gets dark. For those who want to save energy for the next day or can’t find their flashlights, this is a good chance to have everything clean before starting the next day. Pre-dark cleaning also helps with making sure that all of the clutter and dirt is picked up and there is no chance of your campsite being invaded by bears or pests.

Clean Up Your Campfire

When your great outdoors camping trip has ended, make sure you clean up your campfire area. You have given yourself just enough time to burn the wood to ash in your small mound fire. If there is any wood left over, disperse it and soak your ash with water to prevent a forest fire. When finished, scatter the large ash across a large surface area.

Now that your trip is over make sure you have everything cleaned up and packed up and embrace the memories of the great outdoors until your next trip.
