The Best Way to Clean A Plastic Light Cover

Has the lighting in your home gotten a little dim? Your plastic light covers could be the reason the lighting in your home is less than flattering. Yellow dim light covers are not only one big distraction with guests, but can also be an embarrassing site to see. With your pristine white light cover fading to yellow because of the age, heat, or prolonged exposure to light, restoring it will bring it back to the greatness it once was.

Use Your Step Ladder to Help

Once you start the process of cleaning your light cover you may need to use a step ladder to properly remove it. Making sure you wear gloves before removing the light cover will also help you avoid getting dirt on your hands. If your light cover is screwed in, having a safe place for the screws will prevent you from having to worry about losing them.

Peroxide or Bleach?

To get rid of those old looking annoying spots on your plastic light covers, using a hydrogen peroxide solution to restore them will help with bringing them back to life. After cleaning your light covers, use a brush to apply a thick layer of the hydrogen peroxide solution, completely covering the piece and then wrap it in plastic. Once you are done wrapping the cover, leave it in direct sunlight for 90 minutes and then rotate it. Applying a coat of hydrogen peroxide cream every two to three hours, leave the covers outside until the sun starts to go down. Check to see if the process worked and if it didn’t, you can either repeat the process or try to soak the light covers in bleach. Soaking your light covers in bleach for several hours should turn them white again, but if the bleach does not work, using a little elbow grease to sandpaper out the yellow spots is also an option. Whatever you decide, your light covers will be restored back to the beauty they deserve to be.

If you find that you are unable to clean your light covers, calling in a house cleaning professionals may help you find the perfect clean you need for your light covers.
