Lair Hill Park in Portland, Oregon

Located in southwest Portland, Oregon, Lair Hill Park is a 3.26-acre public park. The park was acquired in 1927, and it features a statue by Bruce West called BW1. Historic buildings

Located in Portland, Oregon, Lair Hill Park is a city park with playground equipment, picnic tables and street parking. It is also home to the William Lair Hill Park building, which was built in 1918 in the Modified Georgian Revival style. It was used as a dormitory for nurses working at the county hospital. The building is now for sale, and is listed at $649000.

William Lair Hill was a lawyer, newspaper editor and historian. He owned property in the area between 1882 and 1887. In 1927, Multnomah County donated the land to the City of Portland.

In the late 1800s, the area was known as South Portland. The neighborhood was the home of several early pioneers and had its own unique history. The neighborhood was bounded roughly by Hood Street, Arthur Street, Front Street, Curry Street and Grover Street.

The neighborhood has had a number of changes, most notably in the mid-20th century when a series of roadway projects cut into the neighborhood. Streetcars were installed to connect the neighborhood to the growing downtown.

Restaurants

During the past year several Portland restaurants closed, including some of our favorites. Zefiro, a former restaurant of the year winner, was one of them. A restaurant specializing in burgers, Zefiro’s was the best in town. But after years of incredible meals, the restaurant closed in 2000.

Alexis Restaurant was another one that closed this year. The restaurant served Greek and Greek-inspired foods, including saganaki and braised lamb shanks. The dining room also featured a modern take on French classics, with an emphasis on dressing up.

The Heathman Hotel restaurant served regional dishes. The restaurant was home to future James Beard award-winning chef Greg Higgins, who also worked at Zefiro. The Heathman’s menu also featured Andy Warhol wildlife series and an innovative farm-to-table approach to cooking. The restaurant closed earlier this year.

The Carnival restaurant was a family-owned burger and shakes spot. The restaurant opened in 1950 and operated until 2000. The restaurant drew nurses from OHSU, which was close by. The restaurant was replaced by a seafood restaurant called SouthPark. The restaurant was later demolished. A fantastic read!

There are many reasons to visit Lair Hill. One of the most obvious is its history. It was home to a thriving community in the early part of the twentieth century. In fact, some of the oldest homes in the neighborhood date back to 1870.

Another reason to visit Lair Hill is its proximity to downtown. The neighborhood is bordered by I-405 on the north and SW Barbur Blvd on the south. The neighborhood also has a tight-knit community and a variety of activities for families of all ages.

Lair Hill Park is a great place to visit with the whole family. It offers several play areas, a transfer station, a merry-go-round, and lots of picnic tables. The play area also includes a number of sensory play elements, an engineered mulch surface, and a ramp into a large play area.

Named after William Lair Hill

During the first half of the 20th century, Lair Hill and South Portland were the center of the Portland Jewish community. The homes, storefronts, and buildings in the neighborhood are all original, and their architectural details reflect this history. In fact, the area’s name was originally “Nob Hill,” and it was lined with mansions and other fancy buildings.

During the mid-20th century, the neighborhood was threatened by urban renewal projects. While the community was still primarily a residential area, it was beginning to suffer from the encroachment of commercial uses and absentee ownership. In 1977, the neighborhood was declared a City of Portland Conservation District.

There are several parks in the area. Lair Hill Park is located on Second Avenue and Meade Street. It has a play area and picnic tables. The Carnegie Library is located here as well.
