Should I Clean My Kitchen Pantry Before Thanksgiving?

The beauty of family coming together to share a delicious homemade Thanksgiving dinner can be a joyous and memorable moment. Unfortunately, the clutter in your kitchen pantry can create a great amount of stress once you start to gather all of your ingredients for your Thanksgiving meal. Old items or unused can goods that seem to have been in your pantry forever should be taken out and donated. Once your kitchen pantry is decluttered, you will see why it is important to have all the space you need for your holiday meal with your family.

Do A Deep Clean

Like any area of your home, cleaning out your kitchen pantry is important. If it has been years since you have deep cleaned it, then the chore is long overdue. However, it is also the perfect time to do it before your Thanksgiving gathering and before buying all of your ingredients for your holiday dinner. Removing everything from the pantry and cleaning each shelf at least once or twice a year will avoid the nuisance of it getting too full.

Throw Away the Expired Food

Keeping old expired food in your pantry will only continue to take up space. So, checking the dates on your can goods and any other food in your pantry will help when clearing it out. Along with creating more space in your kitchen pantry, throwing out expired food will eliminate the worry of diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting. In addition, cleaning out your pantry will keep you from grabbing the wrong can of goods for any ingredient for your special holiday dinner.

Keep Access to Your Crucial Cooking Tools

If you plan on baking for your Thanksgiving holiday, making sure you are able to have access to all of your baking tools is important. Being able to reach your cooking tools while preparing your desserts, is a must, especially if you are expecting guests. For the perfect pie, cake, or cookie, the right pans, and other baking tools are needed for the delicious sweetness to hit your appetite just right. With a cluttered pantry and limited reach to your favorite baking pans, you may not be able to enjoy your favorite baked holiday goods the way you want to.

Organize Your Pantry Neatly

Now that you have cleaned out your pantry, you can organize it the way you want. If there are opened boxes of cereal or other food, making sure they are easy to get to will avoid any situations where something may be knocked over or knocked down. Keeping all of the same types of food in a group with each other in the pantry will also keep all of your favorite foods from getting lost in the back of your pantry. If you may come across food that doesn’t have a specific group it belongs in, then creating a miscellaneous pile will help with making sure your pantry stays organized. A decluttered kitchen pantry will relieve the stress and worry of your busy holiday cooking bringing more worry than needed.
