How Should I Start the Attic Cleaning Process?

Are you thinking about cleaning out your attic but don’t know where to start? While your attic is a room in your home that can often go overlooked, it is important to clean it regularly. However, if it is full of clutter, dirt, and dust, you may have to figure out what to do and where to start. With a great plan, you will be able to tackle the big task of getting your attic fresh and clean.

Gather What You Need

Once you get ready to start cleaning your attic space, it is best to gather all of your cleaning equipment and any soaps, cleaners, or detergents you plan on using. Gathering all of your supplies will keep you from having to travel up and down the stairs for things you may need while cleaning. Another item you may want to grab before heading up the stairs to clean your attic is a lamp. A lamp will help you clean all of the darkened or hard-to-see areas without a problem.

Clear the Space

Removing any furniture or boxes is a good idea before starting the cleaning process. If the items are too big to move, finding an area to move them to until you are finished cleaning will eliminate the worry of having to try to clean around them. Before starting your cleaning, you may also want to remove the window treatments and put them in the washer.

Dust Everything

When you begin to dust in your attic, dust the beams, light fixtures, ceiling fans and blades, walls, and window frames. These areas can quickly collect dust and removing it will bring better air quality. Once everything is dust-free inspect everything thoroughly to make sure all of the dust was removed, without any particles left behind. If you need to, run your finger across the areas you dusted to make sure all of the dust is gone.

Sweep, Vacuum, Wash

After you have cleared away the big boxes and furniture and dusted everything, it is time to sweep all of the debris that has accumulated on the floor or vacuum the areas that need attention. With a nice clean floor, the cleanliness of your attic space will bring you satisfaction. However, if you really want to bring the cleanliness of your space out, washing the windows will give you that nice clean feeling you hope for.

If you want to make sure your space is perfectly clean without any clutter buildup anytime soon, organizing and separating your old things will help with determining what stays and what goes.
